In-Home Computer Help: What to Expect (Yes, We Wear Shoe Covers)

Short answer: yes, we wear shoe covers in your home. And that’s one small part of what a good in-home computer visit should feel like: respectful of your space, clear about what’s happening, and nothing you didn’t ask for.
We heard a conversation on NJ 101.5 recently about shoes on or off in people’s homes, and it got us talking, because it’s something we think about on every visit. At our own home, we take our shoes off. So when we come to yours, we want to treat it the same way.
Why this matters more than it sounds
Letting a technician into your home takes some trust, especially if you live alone, you’re older, or you’ve had a bad experience with a service person before. Your floors, your privacy and your files are all in play. The small things a technician does when they walk in tell you a lot about how they’ll treat the rest.
The shoe covers

We bring our own one-time-use shoe covers and put them on before we step inside. We do it without being asked, unless you tell us you’d rather we didn’t.
That surprises a lot of people. Some customers have a pair ready for us, and they’re pleasantly surprised to find we already have our own. Others just notice when we’re done and say thank you.
It’s your home, so your rules win. One family asked us to change the covers when moving between rooms, for a health-related reason. We said of course and did it, no questions. If you’d rather shoes off at the door, or you want a part of the house to stay off limits, just say so.
If you’d like a pack of your own for anyone who visits, they’re inexpensive and easy to find in stores or online. Search for shoe covers on Amazon or Walmart.
Do you even need a visit?
Not always. Some problems can be solved remotely, so we start by talking it through with you, by phone, text, email or chat (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp or Telegram), whichever you prefer. If we both agree that a visit is the better way, we schedule it the same way, with no need to get on a call if you’d rather keep it in writing. That saves you the wait when a visit isn’t needed, and it means a visit is for something that really needs hands on the equipment.
One safety note: only ever allow remote access to a technician you contacted yourself. A pop-up or unexpected call asking you to connect is a scam. We’ve written about the fake renewal email and the “call now” pop-up tactics.
What an in-home visit looks like, start to finish
- We agree on a short time window. When you book, we pick a window, such as 12:00 to 12:30, so you’re not stuck waiting around all day.
- We call ahead with an arrival time. On the day, we call with an actual ETA, not just the window, so you know when to expect us.
- We put on shoe covers. Before we step inside.
- We stay on the job. We work on what you asked us to, and we don’t touch anything outside it.
- We explain in plain English. What’s wrong, what we’re doing, and what your options are, with no jargon you have to decode.
- We protect your data. What’s on your computer is private. When there’s a risk to your files, such as before cloning a drive or running an operating system update or repair, we say so and back up first when it’s needed. (If you’re curious why, see why cloning a drive isn’t as simple as the videos make it look.)
- We clean up when we’re done. No cables, packaging or leftovers behind.
- We ask if there’s anything else. A printer that’s acting up, a phone question, a Wi-Fi dead spot. We’re already there, and we’re happy to help.

Frequently asked questions
Will the technician wear shoe covers in my home?
With us, yes. We bring disposable shoe covers and put them on before we step inside, unless you tell us you'd rather we didn't. If you prefer shoes off, or you'd like to supply your own, that's fine too.
Do I need to provide shoe covers?
No. We carry our own one-time-use pairs and wear them without being asked. Some customers set out a pair for us. They're always happy to find we already have ours.
Can I ask for different rules in my home?
Of course. It's your home. Some families ask for shoe covers to be changed between rooms, or for shoes off at the door, or for a certain area to stay off limits. We follow the request without questions.
Do I always need a visit, or can you fix it remotely?
Not always. Some problems can be solved remotely, so we talk it through with you first, by phone, text, email or chat (Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp or Telegram), whichever you prefer. If we both agree that a visit is needed, we schedule one. Only ever allow remote access to someone you contacted yourself, never to a pop-up or an unexpected caller.
Will you call before you arrive?
Yes. When you book, we agree on a short time window, for example 12:00 to 12:30. On the day, we call ahead with an actual estimated arrival time, so you're not waiting around for the whole window.
Is it safe to have a technician work on my computer at home?
A good one stays on the job you asked for, doesn't touch anything else in your home, keeps what's on your computer private, and tells you what they're doing in plain language. If there's a risk to your files, such as before cloning a drive or an operating-system update or repair, we say so and back up first when it's needed.
Which towns do you visit?
We do in-home and on-site visits in Marlboro, Morganville, Manalapan, Freehold, Holmdel, Colts Neck, Aberdeen, Matawan and Old Bridge. Other towns may have a travel surcharge, so ask when you book.
